I want my appliances to be excellent, not “smart.”

My television doesn’t need a video camera and my washing machine shouldn’t be asking me about its net promoter score. I just want stuff that works.

Basic digital tooling is not required. If you must, all systems must be commodity purchasable, (~raspberry pi), and all software must be open source, and all systems but MUST have mechanical backup and easily replaceable compute.

Most important: no internet connection necessary.

• Thermostat

This could be extended to computer peripherals as well, like:

• Printer
• Microphone / light / camera setup (Opal C1 comes close)
